Floor Cleaning Solution Recipe

Recently I was on the lookout for a floor cleaning solution that I could make from ingredients in my kitchen.

With a toddler in the house, who has on more than one occasion eaten food right off the floor, I wanted to know that the ingredients in my floor cleaner were not toxic. I modified my version from this recipe. It fits the bill and leaves my floors so nice and clean.

The first time I used this recipe, I didn't add any essential oils and the smell of vinegar was very strong!

So then I added some sweet orange essential oil.  It helped with the vinegar smell so I would definitely recommend adding some essential oils to scent the solution.

This is a really simple recipe, which is another reason I like it!

Floor Cleaning Solution Recipe

1 cup of water
1 cup of vinegar
1 cup of rubbing alcohol
2 drops of dishwashing liquid
10 - 15 drops of essential oils (your preferred scent)

I added this floor cleaner to my microfiber spray mop and love the new peace of mind and convenience of cleaning my floors with this solution.

Do you have any cleaners you make yourself?  Please share them if you do!  I'm sure I could save a lot of money by making more of my cleaning solutions myself.

  5. Love this! I use the wet wipes on my Swiffer, though I'll be running out soon. Otherwise, I've used vinegar though the smell is really strong as you say.

    1. Vinegar is a strong smell. The orange essential oil helps take the edge off, which is nice!

  8. Love your recipe! So funny, the timing of this post because I just filled up my floor and multipurpose cleaner bottle with a simplified version of this! I just use water, dishwashing liquid and essential oil and it works so well. Having 2 small children in the house, it's so much better than harsh cleaners.

  9. I've never thought about making cleaning solutions by myself, but I really want my floors to sparkle and smell good. I never really knew I could add my own scent until I stumbled upon your post. I'm going to try that out and let you know how it does for me. It should be quite easy, seeing as how you've elaborated the steps quite well. Thank you for this! :)
