This idea to refashion my Ikea picture frame with scraps of fabric came to me while laying in bed one night. Do you hear stories like that all the time? I do. People are always saying how an idea came to them at night.
Well I finally have one of those "it came to me at night" idea stories! After thinking about it, what seemed like all night long, morning finally arrived and I got to try out my idea.
Now I have to admit, my initial thought process for this frame did not include an ombré design. To tell you the truth, I'm actually quite tired of seeing ombré designs EVERYWHERE.
But when I laid out my fabric scraps and started trying out the different designs I'd envisioned the night before, they didn't look as fantastic as I'd hoped.
But as I gathered my pink pieces together (as pink is one of the best colors around, besides teal, that is) I begrudgingly came to the conclusion that I would have to make the design ombrè.
It was the only option. Which also meant that I now have to stop being so mean to ombrè designs and give them a chance.
I really like how my happy little pink ombrè frame turned out!
But I am determined that the teal frame that I want to make will not be an ombrè.
Funny story on how this frame design ended up! As you can tell from my pictures, the white and light pink were supposed to be at the top of the frame.
But in my finished photos, the darker pink is at the top.
I didn't take into account which side was the top before I started gluing all my fabric scraps down and it wasn't until I turned it over to insert my picture that I realized I'd glued them on upside down.
But it turned out to be a happy mistake because I really like it with the dark pink at the top!
Although next time I'm going to try really hard to remember to make sure I have the frame going the right way before I glue anything down.
I know I titled this as a tutorial and have just rambled on the whole time about nothing, but the pictures pretty much explain the process.
(For a less rambled, more tutorialed post, check out this one on how I made a card from a gift bag. :))
This tutorial in a nutshell: pick your fabric, pick your design, cut, glue, enjoy.
Oh, and make sure your frame is right side up and get over any stupid design prejudices you may have before you begin.
Now be honest, have you caved to any uber-trends that you were previously dead set against? Please, do tell!...

Fast and easy are the two most important qualities with a toddler around, haha! :)
