The story of Abraham begins in Genesis 11:26 and goes through Genesis 25:11.
1) Abraham was incredibly wealthy.
Abraham had silver, gold, livestock and servants. Everywhere Abraham went he accumulated more wealth. He was given all kinds of riches from kings and a priest. But most importantly he had a right relationship with God.
2) Abraham's wife Sarah was stunningly beautiful.
Abraham feared he would be killed so that the kings of the lands he was visiting could marry Sarah. He made Sarah tell them she was his sister. The kings took her into their households because of her beauty and she was at least 65 years old, most likely older, the first time, and 89 years old the second time it happened!
3) Sarah was Abraham's sister.
Sarah was Abraham's half sister. They had the same dad.
4) Abraham lived in a region with giants.
The local kings battled against the giants in their region during Abraham's time. The Rephaim and Emim were giants and the Rephaim were still around during the time of King David.
5) Abraham had enough people in his household to form and lead an imposing army.
When Lot was captured in war, Abraham armed his servants and successfully rescued him.
6) Abraham saw the aftermath of Sodom and Gomorrah with his own eyes.
Abraham saw the smoke of the former cities rising up like a furnace. Abraham plead a successfully convincing case to God, face-to-face, to save the doomed cities before they were destroyed. God promised him He wouldn't destroy them if even 10 righteous people were found there. The rest is history.
7) Abraham had other sons besides Isaac and Ishmael.
Abraham remarried after Sarah died. Even though Abraham had many sons, Isaac remained his son of promise.
I look forward to reading my little Peanut all my favorite Bible stories when she's older. In the meantime, I will teach her this prayer that I used to say before falling asleep as a kid.
What is your favorite story in the Bible? Did you remember all of these facts about Abraham?
