Ready for the easiest way EVER? Simply soak the jar in water, label and all.
After several hours (I often will wait until the next day) the label and glue come right off!
The label is drenched, so it will just peel away.
With the remaining glue, it picks off really easily.
All clean!
I like to store Peanut's snacks in these baby food jars. If she doesn't eat them for a few days they don't get all plasticy tasting like they do when stored in a plastic baggy.
This works on all types of different label glues.
After soaking for a day, this jar's label just rolled off when I rubbed it with my fingers.
My rhododendron bloom was very happy in this jar. :)
Here is another example, with a little trickier glue.
After the label came off this jar, a sticky glue was left.
I used my dish scraper and scraped off all the glue.
It only took a minute or two.
The glue residue that is stuck to the jar after scraping it washes right off.
I used this jar for my bottle brushes.
I have had one or two jars were the water didn't soften the glue enough to come off, so I just recycled those jars. They weren't worth the trouble.
This method has worked for my jam and jelly jars, peach and pear jars, pizza sauce jars, baby food jars and more!
Do you like reducing chemical exposure like I do? Then check out this post for a way to keep from exposing your baby to unnecessary chemicals.
Do you save your glass jars? If so, what have you used them for? I'm always looking for fun and creative ways to use some of my pretty jars!

DeletePerfect solution!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteVisiting from the Inspire Us Thursday link party. Great tip! I've used nail polish remover before, but I was nervous of the chemicals (and it took a long time). This should be a lot easier and safer :)
ReplyDeleteI was wrecking my finger nails trying to get the glue off my baby food jars. This is so much easier! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteIt is such a great tip. Chipping nails when trying to peel the stickers is so annoying. Thanks for sharing this post with our 'Woot! Woot! It's Friday' link party. Just another suggestion, you can also use a hair dryer and blow hot air over the sticker from a distance for about 30 seconds and see the magic that is to follow :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to have to try the hair dryer method! Thanks! Some labels can be so stubborn and I just don't like using those icky chemicals.
DeleteI just did a post on this recently, because I was trying to find the best method! I never thought to leave them in the water all day/overnight! I will try this! Thank you for sharing at Merry Monday Linky - I'm sure lots of people will find this useful! :) Julia
ReplyDeleteGood luck removing your labels! Those suckers really stick to glass well. :) And thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeletePS. Thanks for linking up at Thank Goodness It's Thursday!
I agree! I avoid chemicals as best as I can. :)
DeleteHi, Lila! This is a great tip! I always use Goo Gone, but chemical free is a better way to go! Thanks for linking at On Display Thursday. We are so happy to have you at our inaugural party! :-) - Bre @ Average But Inspired
