After giving Peanut one of my old dolls, I realized she did not have her original pants and her bare back end needed covering. My husband told me he had an old tube sock that I could use. So here is a DIY tutorial of how I used an old tube sock to make Peanut's doll a pair of pants.
It worked out perfectly that the tube sock I used was red and white. It coordinates with the dolls dress! A repurposed hand me down. I love second hand clothes!
First, try the sock on the doll to find out where to cut. I decided that I needed to cut the top off the tube sock just below the elastic.
Snip, snip, snip. I like that the top of the sock works as the already hemmed waistband to the pants.
Next, cut the two pant legs by cutting right up the middle of the sock top an inch and a half or so.
Then turn the sock inside out so that when you're finished stitching the pants, the seams look nice on the right side.
Sew the crotch of the pants with a simple stitch. You could use a sewing machine, but I don't have one yet, so I used a needle and thread.
Then fold up the bottom of each pant leg and stitch the hem.
All done with the sewing! These are so simple to make.
Turn the little pants right side out.
Here is Peanut's doll before her new pants.
As you can see, we had a little indecency issue! :)
And then just slip on the new tube sock pants! I had to fold the bottom hem in on the pant legs since they rolled inside out a bit when I put the pants on the doll.
It's a perfect fit.
No more peek-a-boo bum, much better!
And that's how to make a pair of doll pants from a tube sock. I'm sure you could make a top or dress using a tube sock as well.
Do you make your own doll clothes? What materials do you use? I'd love to hear suggestions for more outfits for Peanut's dolls!
